FAQ

How long does a shift last?

Shifts are concentrated in one day, leaving plenty of time to visit other buildings. Each assignment typically lasts 2 to 3 hours.

Can I choose when and where I work?

Most volunteer assignments are decided through self-registration. This means you can have a say in where you’ll be assigned. Two volunteers may be present at the same time. Volunteers are divided into two areas: Sopraceneri and Sottoceneri.

What are my responsibilities as a volunteer?

Volunteers will be present at the buildings during the Open House weekend. Their primary role will be to welcome visitors and inform them about the program and the building. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older.

Are there any requirements to become a volunteer?

As a volunteer for Open House Ticino, you’ll be in direct contact with our visitors, therefore a friendly and trustworthy attitude is important. You’ll also need to be available to attend one of our training evenings. To ensure everyone’s participation, we offer both in-person and online sessions. Training sessions typically take place on a weekday evening. Our volunteer community includes people of all backgrounds and ages. Specific architectural expertise is not required. However, please let us know in your message what expertise you’d like to bring to the Open House!
