Double Gymnasium CPC
Baserga Mozzetti architetti with Ingegneri Pedrazzini Guidotti
Competition 2007
Realisation 2009-2010
The gymnasium fits into the context of the school and museum campus, weaving various relationships with the site's special elements. It is characterised by the square plan of the main volume of the gymnasium and a partially emerging plinth. While the hall does not privilege an orientation, denoting the public character of its content, the plinth reacts to different situations and topographical divergences. In particular, it presents: an access terrace in relation to the school buildings; a seating area in relation to the garden to the south; a delimitation of the road field and the existing square to the east; while to the west it stands in relation to the m.a.x Museum. The particular load-bearing structure of the building with a single support on each side allows the upper part of the hall to be detached from the plinth, creating an opening that illuminates it all around and relates the interior with the various elements of the context.
