Architecture competition: 2010
Renovation Block A: 2013 - 2016
Renovation Blocks D and P: 2018 - 2019
Construction Extension: 2018 - 2020
The project to expand the Institute's teaching spaces is part of the overall concept to renovate the entire complex that began with the architectural competition in 2010. The first steps took place with the energy refurbishment of its main parts: in 2016, Block A - which houses the Institute's classrooms and administrative spaces - then in 2019, Blocks D and P, i.e. the south wing where some cantonal offices and teaching laboratories are located. These interventions have brought the building designed by architects Jäggli, Brunoni, Beretta-Piccoli and Tallone, built in 1959 and initially intended as a military barracks, up to date in terms of energy to meet the new requirements. The design approach was conceived with respect for the initial substance, preserving the façades, renovated externally and insulated internally.
The last step addressed, within the overall concept, responded to the demand for new teaching spaces, built from scratch on the west side of the school.
