Morbio Inferiore Middle School
Mario Botta Architetti, 1977
Designed by Mario Botta and built between 1972 and 1977, the Morbio InferioreSecondary School is regarded as one of the most significant examples of schoolarchitecture in Ticino. The complex is distinguished by its geometric composition, organized into a sequence of repeated blocks, each serving a specific function. The mainbuilding is visually and spatially linked to the gymnasium through an open-airamphitheatre, conceived as a gathering place, as are the surrounding porticoes.
In the lawn before the school standsSemi-submerged Man, a granite sculpture createdin1979 by Pierino Selmoni. Rising from the ground, it draws the eyes and footsteps ofstudents, teachers and visitors toward the school.
