Roberto Bianconi Architetto, 1969 - 1971

Built in the 1970s on Via Vallone in Bellinzona, this apartment block designed byRoberto Bianconi (*1939) is considered a forerunner of the "Tendenza" – anarchitectural movement and style from Ticino in the 70s and 80s that achieved globalinfluence. In the spirit of historical appreciation and a modern reinterpretation of thisarchitectural monument, the apartment was renovated and reimagined based on theoriginal 1971 project. The goal was to capture the mood originally present at the time of construction andrevive it with a few select interventions. The diagonal sightlines allow views acrossthe entire layout, creating an unexpected sense of spaciousness within the smallresidential unit. This spatial dimension is further enhanced by the new floor-to-ceilingwindow that wraps around the corner between the living area and the patio. The new,black-lacquered ledges, running along the exterior walls in all rooms, serve asseating, desks, and storage. In line with the original color concept, pink was chosenfor the single wall that extends from facade to facade and from the interior into thepatio. The bathrooms and kitchen were largely preserved in their original state. Theflooring had to be completely replaced – using cement tiles in the patio and light grayPirelli studded rubber flooring indoors, the original continuous light gray tone wasrestored using two iconic materials from the 1970s.
