Restoration by Arch. Campi and Pessina, 18th century, restoration 1972

The palazzo, located in the city centre, was built between 1732 and 1754 by Count-Abbot Francesco Saverio Riva (1702-1783) and takes its name from the convent of S. Margherita that stood opposite, now vanished. The design was the work of the client himself and of master builder Pietro Corti. It was one of the three main residences of the Riva family and is the only one that still belongs to it. Inside are frescoes by the most important painters of the period, and the collection of portraits of family members is housed there.
