Three Residential Buildings at Via Turconi 7

Located just a few steps from Mendrisio’s historic centre and the Academy of Architecture, the buildings of the residential and commercial complex on Via Turconi represent the second stage of a more ambitious neighbourhood regeneration project that began in 2013 and is still ongoing.

The main focus here was the redesign of the public space along Via Turconi and the creation of a familiar, unpretentious urban character for the shared spaces. The two buildings are aligned along the street, forming a regular and clearly defined frontage, with a shared architectural language and a common height. The spaces between them extend the public realm of the pavement into the depth of the site, around the buildings, connecting it with the open garden spaces at the rear.

The tactile qualities of the exposed concrete construction, the stereometric precision of the composition, and the rhythm of the sharp lines cast by light within the deep window openings contribute to an overall atmosphere of urban sobriety, revealing their finest qualities over time through the everyday experience of the spaces.
