Casa agli Orti
Buzzi studio d'architettura, 2016 - 2019
At Solduno’s outskirts, a former community garden cultivated by Italian immigrants inspires a housing project linking neighbourhood and river. The volume is split into two bodies, reducing impact while creating outdoor spaces and new vegetable plots. A structural grid organises plans, façades, apartments and gardens, while the memory of cultivation ensures continuity. Sixteen apartments occupy four floors around a central core; each has a vegetable plot and shared rooftop terrace. Minimal structure and lightweight partitions allow flexibility and change. Visible slabs, pillars and pilasters express the construction, while handcrafted ceramic tiles clad the façade. A pebble garden recalls the nearby riverbank. Casa agli Orti proves that sustainable, affordable housing can achieve quality through simple, inventive gestures.
